BMLD Director
After completing her studies in Barcelona, Frankfurt and New York she obtained a degree in Interior Design from IADE and Llotja as well as an MFA in Lighting Design from Parsons School of Design, NYC. Birgit works in numerous lighting design studios in New York and founded BMLD in 2001. BMLD has participated in national and international projects such as the renovation of the Taj Mahal Mumbai, the MNAC Museum in Barcelona, Hotel W Barcelona and is currently participating in projects such as the renovation of the Gran de Glorias Shopping Center, La Casa Lleo Morera in Barcelona and the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten in Munich.
For Birgit, one task she considers essential in Spain is to establish a permanent development of the profession. For this reason, she is actively involved in education, conferences, promotional events and Lighting Design publications. She is co-director of the Master’s Degree in Lighting at the Polytechnic University of Barcelona (UPC) and co-director of the postgraduate course Proyectar la Luz in DF, Mexico. She is also co-founder of the Professional Association of Lighting Designers APDI and active member of the European Lighting Designers Association PLDA.
